【摘要】:Hexavalentchromiumhasbeenshowntobeahumanrespiratorycarcinogeninepidemiologicalstudieswhenhumansareexposedtorelativelyhighairborneconcentrations.Suchhighexposuresmayalsoinducedermalsensitizationtohexavalentchromiuminhumans(5).AmbientatmosphericconcentrationsofhexavalentchromiumarewellbelowdetectionlimitsofsamplingmethodsincludingTestMethodD3586andNIOSH-7600(1).Objectiveassessmentofambientatmosphericconcentrationsofhexavalentchromiumprovidesameansofevaluatingexposurestoatmospherichexavalentchromiuminamannerthatcanberelatedtohealth-basedrisklevels.Collectingsuchactualmonitoringdatareducesoreliminatestheneedfortheoreticalresuspensionmodelingandprovidesimprovedbasisforhealthassessmentsofpotentialexposures(5).ThebufferedimpingersamplingtechniqueprovidespHcontrolofthesamplingmedium,whichstabilizestheoxidationstateofhexavalentchromiumduringsampling(6).Ionchromatographyprovidesameansofseparatingthehexavalentchromiumfromotherspeciespresentinthesample,manyofwhichinterferewithotherdetectionmethods.Thecombinationofthisseparationwithasensitivecolorimetricdetectionmethodprovidesaselectiveandsensitiveanalyticalmethodforhexavalentchromiumwithminimalsamplepreparation(4).1.1Thistestmethodcoversthecollectionandmeasurementofhexavalentchromium[Cr(VI)]intheambientatmosphere.1.2Thistestmethodcollectsandstabilizesatmospherichexavalentchromiumusinganalkalineimpingerbuffersolutioninawetimpingementsamplingtechnique.Leadchromate[PbCrO4],generallyconsideredpoorlysolubleinwater,issolubleintheimpingersolutionupto940g/Lashexavalentchromium.1.3Thistestmethodmeasureshexavalentchromiumusinganionchromatographicseparationcombinedwithapostseparationreactionwithacolorimetricreagentandphotometricdetection.1.4Thistestmethodisapplicableintherangefrom0.2to100ng/m3ofhexavalentchromiumintheatmosphereassuming20m3ofairsample.Therangecanbeextendedupwardsbyappropriatedilution.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Theinch-poundunitsgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
